Nursery
plants that build connections
Recent scientific research and Indigenous knowledge passed on for millennia show us that plants which evolved in specific locales form the glue that holds those ecosystems together. The more native plants we re-introduce to our gardens or properties, the more connections we promote with the other organisms that co-evolved with those plants.
The Edgelands nursery is located in Eagle Creek, OR, where the Willamette Valley oak savanna meets the deep green of the Cascade Foothills. Operated by Greg Shepherd, co-founder of Xera Plants, this is a different kind of nursery.
Plants are grown outdoors and well acclimated to the extremes of our local weather. We are 100% organic – fertilizer and all – and no sprays of any kind are used. Our organically grown plants will be ready to attract other life forms, both above and below ground, as soon as they are planted.
We sell plants without plastic: orders are packaged in biodegradable materials with intact root systems for the highest level of planting success.
We specialize in source-identified plants native to the Willamette Valley ecoregion, including many species that are difficult to find in the trade. With over 30 years of growing experience, Greg is always experimenting with new species and looking for the best sustainable production methods to grow healthy plants that will thrive. Eventually we will also offer climate-adapted plants from adjacent ecoregions.
At the moment, we use old-school ordering practices: check out the Plant Availability here on the website and email in an order and we’ll coordinate pick up! Since we use non-plastic shipping containers, we recommend picking up your order as close to planting day as possible.
